2005-12-26 20:39:06 636 Twas a Christmas. I drove the Camry down the Trace to avoid Jackson traffic on Friday. Made it home in about four hours. Mom had cooked and it was wonderful. On Saturday we ate lunch at the Center City Grill and it was pretty good. That afternoon Dad and I changed the oil in my car, fixed the trunk latch, and forced some more grease in the clicky CV joint. On Sunday, Dad and I went to Woodville and saw the relatives. My cousins are all getting married and having kids like crazy. Granny was doing well and had cooked a bunch of food. After a while we went back home and Mom had cooked a lot of food too. She fixed up a bunch to come back with me too. Dad and I loaded my car up with firewood. David had left my old Raleigh bike for me to get and I managed to get it in the trunk. Dad let me take the double bitted axe I liked to use too. Turns out my mileage from Starkville to the house was about 27. Leaving from the Exxon on Liberty Road in Natchez, I made a whole 29mpg back to the Shell on Louisville in wonderful Starkvegas. Made it back to the apartment and Emily surprised me with a trumpet painting that she had made for me. We ate the leftovers Mom had sent back with me and Emily devoured the dressing. Today I got Emily to drive me over to GTR and I picked up my rental car. I got a "free upgrade" so instead of a Cavalier, I got an Altima. It is pretty nice even though it is so freaking ugly inside. It's a 2006 with about 8k on it and a four cylinder. It is way too big of a car to have a mere four and needs a V6. So anyway I am leaving for Evansville around 5ish in the morning. The good news is that the temps up there are supposed to be up around 50 everyday so I don't have to worry about being snowed in.
2005-12-22 22:52:20 635 I love Mississippi State. Only here could we have the very very bad Photoshopping of Happy Holidays onto a Christmas ornament put right onto the main web page! It is so bad you can tell it is faked from the thumbnail!
2005-12-21 21:10:14 634 I got a Tivo! Yay! The bad thing is that I have no phone line to hook it too. Boo! So I went to RadioShack to pick up a Linksys USB200M to connect to my network. Went throught the first few setup screens and it was happy. Got to the part where it calls home and it did not work. So I checked the cable and everything else and it seemed to be good. I asked my good friend Google, and he let me know that the Version 2 of the USB200M does not work with a Tivo without some serious hacking. Screw that, I am going to take it back to RadioShack. OfficeMax has the USB100M in stock and it is supposed to work perfectly. It looks like a trip to Columbus is in my near near future... Oh Tivo, would it kill you to put a $3 gigabit network controller chip on your board? Anyway I bought the lifetime Tivo service deal, which will be cheaper than the monthly plan in 20 months. After I get my rebate , the Tivo is going to cost a whole $11.49. Best. Deal. Ever.
2005-12-21 00:38:36 633 Nip/Tuck == fucked up He said Tivo.
2005-12-16 16:08:26 632 Death by Caffine tells me "You could drink 413.78 cans of Red Bull before croaking." This lets me know that 4 Red Bulls + 16oz vodka in a night is not quite so deadly. Yay for science!
| 2005-12-16 15:31:51 631 I love campus - students. It is soooo peaceful. Actually a little bit creepy when it is the middle of the afternoon and you cannot see anyone on the drill field or in front of the Union. Anyway I broke 900 miles on odometer #2 this morning, so that puts me close to 1600 miles total since I started measuring in late Feb. What makes it so bad is that since I have been keeping detailed records of my expenses in Moneydance since July, I have spent slightly more for bike parts than for fuel and service for the Camry. But the Camry has not even moved 1400 miles since April, and 250 of those miles were from Natchez to Starkville. | 2005-12-12 17:32:14 630 facebook is being discussed on Fox news. Now that old people know about it, it cannot be cool anymore. |
2005-12-11 23:05:41 629 Emily rocks. Yesterday we went to Columbus and watched The Lion,,the Witch and the Wardrobe with Sarah and Cory. Then we went to Tupelo and wasted time at the mall and Best Buy. We went to a neato place called Vanelli's. It was kinda crowded but after a little bit of a wait, we got a table in the bar part close to the stage. The food and Shiner Bock were very good. A little after 9:00 there was some sad sad open mike and then Mike Speanburg was the featured comedian. He had a filthy mouth but was hilarious. So between throwing me a surprise party, a great day of fun, and season one of Futurama, Emily gets two thumbs way up for her efforts. Emily saw Robyn's wedding announcement in the Starkville paper today. Crazy that she got married so quickly because she did not exactly seem like the type to settle down. 875.4 on the odometer so that makes 44.3 miles in two weeks.
2005-12-10 12:04:13 628 24. Yay! What makes me really feel old is that I was seriously looking at IRA's yesterday trying to figure out the best investment strategy for my retirement. Traditional IRA is what I am looking at over the Roth. Russ invited several people to eat pizza with us at Daves yesterday for lunch to mark the passing of another year of my life. It was a lot of fun. I think that Teresa was grossed out by the level of sanitation that goes on there. Apparently you do have to have a birthday to have people write on your facebook wall a lot. Yay for facebook, driving the street price of crack down since 2004!
2005-12-07 20:14:39 627 The Reflector announced Friday that Lee Hall parking would be gated. On Monday the asphalt was broken for the gates. Since my office is in Lee hall, that means that starting in the spring, my $50 staff parking pass will be essentially worthless as I will have to enter a lottery to win the privilege to park near my building. As of now, my car has been on campus about 3 hours this semester; between a dentist appointment and the closure of the University for Katrina. That comes out to $16.67 an hour to park. I did not even get valet. Interestingly enough, the 20-year plan appears to be modified with the constuction of the paved parking lot next to McComas. Check out the 20 year plan here with the McComas wing and another huge building exactly where the parking lot will be. Of course in the grand scheme of things, and not knowing a whole lot about foundation construction, this could be a grand scheme to get the basic leveling and groundwork out of the way for the future buildings. http://msuinfo.ur.msstate.edu/campusplan/districtmap.html
2005-12-04 21:53:52 626 Like my first surprise birthday party since the one my parents had for me when I was in the 1st or 2nd grade at McDonalds. Emily gets bonus points for sure. So we started out by having a meal at Mugshot's with Sarah and Cory. For the first time ever with Cory, we had good service. Then we headed back to the apartment to enjoy some Maker's Mark. As we pulled up I could see Hunter through the window. And I was curious. Then I noticed Russ's truck outside. So I put it together and realized what must be going on. Oh it is true, a keg of Killians and a German chocolate cake. Most wonderful bliss. So I finished my first hour of power ever and the night became a blur. Roger sucks at blowing fire but I rule at it. Just like breaking boards, don't trust someone south of the border. So it turned into a late night with Russ, Lehman, and BJ staying the latest. Anyway TJ is the first to post pics, so if you want to see them venture over to facebook and check them out...
2005-12-02 23:02:10 625 "Can you make me some more of those slut things?" -- Tony Bonetti, requesting more Redheaded Sluts Emily surprised me!!! She gets bonus points! Like the first surprise b-day party since I have been in college!!
2005-12-02 19:25:02 624 So Bright Eyes is the epitome of all that is Emo and and generally I do not care for his music. But the song "At The Bottom Of Everything" is growing on me through the power of the video. "We're going to a birthday party!" So I ventured into the stock market a couple weeks ago. Woo. Almost one entire share of Apple is what I bought. Actually I own exactly 0.9713 shares of Apple, which is what $61 could buy on November 14th and is worth $70.55 already. Yay stocks! Actually I know it is dumb to put such a small amount into the market because of the proportion of fees, but the only way I will ever pay attention is if I have a stake in it. Anyway a really favorable analyst view of Apple came out yesterday and I know how many mother's have asked me about buying iPods for their kids this Christmas so it is still only going to go up from here.
2005-11-30 17:01:34 623 Thank you Firefox! "Drag and drop reordering for browser tabs" is the feature I have been waiting for. Sadly it really is, no joke. I built a 1.5 rc version the other day on the laptop and apparently it was code named Deer Park because it did not refer to itself as Firefox anywhere.
2005-11-29 10:31:27 622 Users are advised to chew sugar-free gum to stop their teeth from grinding and to try to pay their bills before getting high. Those silly Canadians.
2005-11-27 22:58:05 621 Friday night was a good night. There was so much food and beer. Emily got some good pictures, and even some video of Roger not breaking a board on his head. Lehman was a pro at breaking them with his hands. Everyone liked my turkey so this is basically how I did it: 1. Put frozen 20lb turkey into the fridge 5 days before planning to cook it. 2. On the big day pull out the neck and organs and throw them away because they are gross. Wash the turkey well. 3. De-crust two loaves of french bread and cube it into about 1" pieces. Put on baking sheet and sprinkle with olive oil and pepper. Bake for ~15 minutes at 200. 4. Chop up a big onion and some green onion stalks. Saute them with an entire stick of butter. 5. Mix bread cubes with onions and butter and chicken broth until it is mushy. Force as much as possible into the neck cavity and rear end of the turkey. 6. Put turkey in roasting pan and let it go at 325. Every hour, brush on melted butter with pepper and garlic. After the first hour, make a foil tent over the turkey. 7. 5.5 hours and you are done! Butcher the bird! Tap the keg! So a good portion of yesterday was spent at the Egg Bowl. Josh, Emily, and I walked from the apartment. After the game we took the keg to Chris's and continued the jolly times. Best week ever for the bike with 831.1 miles on the odometer so it makes a whole 7.4 miles this week.
2005-11-26 18:37:29 620 We won! Yay! First time in years to beat Ole Miss.
2005-11-26 00:17:18 619 Kathleen Lyons is a whore. A nasty skanky whore. But since no one reads my website, no one will know. That skanky whore.
2005-11-24 23:00:01 618 Twas a good Thanksgiving so far. Tuesday got even better when Dr Lee sent an email that all nonessential staff got a half day on Wednesday. Since I had already had leave for it anyway, that means that I saved four hours. So Emily and I headed out in the afternoon. Made it to Memphis rather quickly and checked into the Holiday Inn Select on Union across from the Peabody. It is not the greatest hotel ever for the price, but it makes up in location. Turns out since I signed up for the Priority Club so I could earn points for IC Hotels, I got two vouchers for drinks or breakfast buffets. So we got ready to go and found the hotel bar for drinks. Went across the street to Pancho's and had supper. The cheese sauce rocks and they had Pacifico. After a while we headed to the Rum Boogie Cafe and listened to the band. I got up with Sesti and they were finally almost there. We arranged to meet at Silky's across the street. Emily and I beat them there. Turns out there was like another dozen people coming to celebrate TJ's birthday. We ordered a bunch of Divers and had a jolly old time. The best entertainment was when the piano player sang an ode to TJ's itsy bitsy weenie. Sadly the place closed early since Tuesday is such a partying night. We headed up the street and ended at the 152 Club. It was fun and Emily made some friends from Chicago. So Wednesday morning, Emily and I walked around Peabody Place and went back down to Beale to eat at the Rum Boogie. Turns out that nachos covered in barbecued pork, cheese, and jalapenos are a heavenly appetizer. After lunch we got the car out of parking and went across town to the Pink Palace musuem. Had fun spending a few hours there, except that Emily had to read everything on every display :) So then we headed out to the Wolfchase to do some shopping. Apparently most of the clothes stores had their prices alread set for the day after Thanksgiving rates so Emily found some stuff for me to get. It was 8:15 PM when we left the mall. I learned the hard way that 78 had redlights through Memphis and does not turn into proto-interstate until you cross into Mississippi. Emily was asleep before we even got to Tupelo, so I stopped and got a Starbucks double shot and some Dr Pepper and made it safely home. Yay for safety! So today Emily and I went to Mathiston. We went by and saw her poor dog Prissy who after fourteen years is not doing so well. She cannot stand up without help and is on pain meds from the vet. After a while we picked up Emily's grandmother and went back to her parents to eat. Later on we took her back home and came back to Starkville where I have been doing a little bit of cleaning on the apartment to get ready for tomorrow.
2005-11-24 11:38:10 617 jiminim@hotmail.com is an account I have had for ages. I don't really use it now but now these UK kids think that I am one of their friends.
2005-11-21 09:34:45 616 TJ will be 21 in less than 24 hours. I will be 24 in less than a month. Emily will be, wait wait, better not say it. 823.7 on the odometer. Does not look like I am going to break 1000 on this odometer this year so my totals are going to be 790 on the old wired odo between late Feb and June and somewhere around 900 on the wireless odo between June and December. It is so wet and nasty today but I rode anyway. So far this entire semester, the only time my car was on campus during business hours was the morning of Katrina. $50 to park for 3 hours. And the day students are bitching about parking zones.
2005-11-17 21:39:29 615 So Emily's camera was the prison of many pictures from the past year. The first ones to be published are from David Garraway's last night as a free man. I like to call this one Province Governor, Assistant Collegiate Province Representative, and Collegiate Province Representative. Truly a work of pure and honest art.
2005-11-17 21:07:22 614 I love Ms Emily. I am going to see Harry Potter at midnight tonight because of her. Yay!
2005-11-13 21:12:45 613 Was a weekend. Friday night we went to Columbus where James was having a surprise party for Sabra. Emily and I were late getting there since I did not get off work until 5:00. It was a lot of fun. Afterward we came back to Starkvegas to go to Rick's. I had not been there in a while; I think the last time was when Wes turned 21. Rick's was fun, the remodeling has made it a bit better, and Splendid Chaos was a pretty good band. Being able to cover Weezer and the Toadies makes them good in my book. Saturday started off too early; we met at Scott's at 8:00 AM. I rode down to MC with Lehman. Sesti managed to beat us there even after having to drop Kallie off in Madison. Province workshop went pretty well, every chapter attended except Ole Miss who had a football game. Actually it went very well for me, I was elected CPR and Sesti was elected ACPR. This is the first time in at least four years that both officers have been at the same school. Tomorrow is Banner 7 day. Woe is me. 797.5 miles on el-odometerito.
2005-11-10 16:32:36 612 So I was playing on a Sun box and decided to play a game of fork bomb. Got the highest load average I have ever seen: 4:27pm up 45 day(s), 17:57, 15 users, load average: 382.09, 389.82, 221.53 Typical load on bill: 16:29:38 up 2 days, 4:04, 1 user, load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00 Luckily the box came back to life so I don't get shot.
2005-11-06 23:47:52 611 This weekend was fun. The girls (Emily, Sarah, and pre-nurses) were at my favorite casino for a nursing convention. Cory came through Starkvegas and picked me up and we headed down there. The girls had made reservations at the Galaxy so that is where we went. I had never been there before and it was pretty neat being up in the moon. I had some sort of porkchop with rib bone cut of pork (which with my limited knowledge of swine anatomy, the rib bone is no where near the chop, maybe I need a class in Cut O' Meat). It was the best piece of pork I have ever had. The Galaxy is a wonderful restaurant whereas the Abbey in Starkville sucks like no other vaccum could. Cory had the coconut shrimp which had been exposed to some Chernobyl-like disaster. Apparently they were good but I would fear the prostate cancer. The ladies got the Jack Daniels glazed salmon and both loved it. After that we went down to the casino floor. All I can say about that gambling was that it sucked. Except that sweet Emily was there and that I got to gamble with some of her nursing friends. Just that between Tony's bday and this weekend I am a whole $20 down. And I was way up after Tony's bday. Screw you autoshuffler blackjack tables. I have now learned the hard hard lesson of avoiding casino $5 blackjack tables when they are busy. Autoshuffler == losing money. On Saturday, after eating the casino buffet, Emily and I went to Jackson to the Mistletoe Marketplace. Turns out it is a good place for chicks and not exactly for guys. I know for next time I get invited to go. (The strange thing was I saw the proverbial 6'5" brunette cute white girl. She was scary, her legs were taller than my waist and her poor boyfriend was like a mere 6'2". I think she has completely turned me off from the seriously tall.) After that we headed towards County Line so I could buy a DNKY shirt and Kenneth Cole belt from TJ Maxx for less than $20 combined. Then we went to Northpark, and McRae's had a good sale going on. I needed new pants for work and the ones I liked ended up being $20 instead of $30 like the sign said. So I came back and bought a 3rd pair. Emily and I had fun walking around the mall. I helped her try out what seemed like 100 pairs of jeans to buy a single pair. Luckily they are hot so everything in the world works out. We left the mall and headed towards Starkvegas. I got to eat at a Burger King for the first time in ages. Turns out the chicken fries are really really good. Oh why, Starkville BK, why did you have to close? The odometer now has a mighty 764.7 miles on it making a whole 26.1 miles for the week. At least this is slightly better than last week. Since my pedals came in at the end of last week I should get a better showing out of the bike. Sadly since it gets dark at freaking 5:00 PM, I will have to make my long rides in the morning when it is freaking cold.
2005-11-02 16:46:30 610 I won a kilo of wasabi on ebay! That is a whole 2.2 lbs. To prepare it takes 3 parts water to 4 parts powder so this is going to make almost four pounds of wasabi. The possibilities are endless, wasabi mashed potatoes, sushi, wasabi chicken, wasabi pancakes and on and on.
2005-10-30 18:39:10 609 What a week. A very long tiring week. And now it is time to start another. The odometer has 738.6 on it so that makes a whole 24 miles for the past week. My new pedals should be on the way soon, the ebay seller emailed me that he misplaced them in shipping a lot of other stuff. He offered a refund but I opted for still getting them. So they should be on the way via priority mail and I should get them about midweek.
2005-10-23 20:55:39 608 A mere 714.6 on the odometer so that makes only 33.4 miles last week. Yeah I'll blame it on the broken pedal clip but really I was just a lazy ass. This week I will be getting a new ebayed set of Look pedals. Now if I could just unscrew the pedal because the threads have binded.
2005-10-23 17:20:41 607 Prison Break is like the best show ever. FX is marathoning it today...
