"I am the second best crab!"
"I could take SARS. And West Nile, just not at the same time."
"I can't do it on demand damnit!"

"Now."

Now the story of the guy peeing his way out of snow is being determined to be an urban ledgend. At least the GI Joe one is still true.

2005-02-02 08:36:22 484

So there is this picture that the AP is circulating as a soldier taken into hostage. It sounds so very sad in their article. But wait a minute! Doesn't that soldier look kinda stiff? His face, vest, kneepads, and even that gun are very similar to this boxed GI Joe action figure.

When MSU sports get you down after a Maine game, just remember Savannah State and know that 0-24 in men's basketball is far worse than anything we could achieve. Near the end of the article other sports are mentioned such as the Savannah State women's basketball setting a NCAA record last year for the fewest points scored in a half. 3. That's right, 3.

"Matt Walsh is a faggot!" That is the best cheer that the student section has come up with narrowly beating "Walsh sucks" and "You still suck" after he made a 3. Florida just has not made it out too well in lovely Starkvegas in basketball or football in a couple years.

Today was so freaking long. I rode my bike and made it to work at 8:30. Russ called me with a high priority ticket to check out so I did for an hour before class. After class we both went over and worked on it until 4:30 so that the transportation department could get their invoices out for last month. It turned out to be one of those fixes that seem like you should have thought of it first and you feel dumb when it finally works. I met Emily at the union and ate. Then there was that little ole MSU/Florida basketball that I had to toot my horn at, and then the boys had to go to Tipico afterward. So here I am at 11:00 and tomorrow class starts at 9 and I will not get off campus until 5. Yay!

Just call me "Jim the Terrible, Conqueror of the Mighty Frisbee" as I broke Sesti's other one today. Two weeks ago I scored a goal and spiked his white one (not even very hard!) and it shattered. Well it helped that it was only about 30 that day. Today I just threw a really long pass that arced gracefully across the field into a crossbar of a soccer goal. There was a nice "chinging" sound and that was that of our poor friend the frisbee. This just means that we will have to find another before next Sunday. And one will not cut it with my record, I am going to buy a couple extras just in case I get happy with another. At least the turnout was pretty good today, it was kinda hard to play last week with only five people.

Amanda Worshum is off in London and is blogging abou it. Lucky her.

Most of Wes's MLK pictures are here.

2005-01-20 10:38:32 478

Rode to work this morning. It was kinda cold.

Wes gave me a big zip of the pictures from Little Berryhill's MLK Bash 2005 (tm) but something got currupted along the way.

Steve called Parking Services because of a ghetto fabulous car out front of the office expecting to get a ticket on it. When they got here they ended up ticketing four cars and putting a wheel lock on one in service parking.

Garden State is a great movie even if the DVD will not play on the mighty PS2 and I have to watch it on my 13" screen. It has one of the best soundtracks ever with the Shins and loads of other good people.

So today we are going to beat the crap out of Arkansas! I know the Henderson crowd will be cheering us on because they hate pigs too!

Sesti helped me fix my caliper today. Since the wheel was going to be off and the outer CV boot is right there, I decided to replace it with a "quick boot" that just slips on. It turned out not being so quick. First of all the steel bands around the original would not break with anything we could do to them. Ended up going to Lowe's and I got some mighty metal cutting pliers and knocked them out. Then you have to put eight tiny screws through eight tiny holes and screw on eight freaking little nuts. Under the car. While the boot is full of grease. After that there are two metal bands to clamp around the front and back of the boot. The big one went on pretty good, but the little one kept slipping off. We ended up just leaving it off and I am going to find another clamp to put on it.

Go to TRL's vote site and write in Devo's Whip It in the write in section. The fark told me to do it.

My car ate another brake caliper just like it did three years ago. I was on campus stopping at the four way stop close to the Sanderson and there was a popping noise and it was hard to stop. I made it back to the apartment with the parking brake. Of course no one has the part in stock, but I will get it tomorrow.

2005-01-08 17:17:23 474

I had to leave my bike at work because it was raining pretty good yesterday afternoon. So I got up this morning and walked back to campus and got it. I rode through downtown, crossed Stark Road, made the loop around Avalon, and came back home. Then I took my bike apart and cleaned my drivetrain with brake cleaner so it is a lot happier now and not so gunky.

So my goal is to someday run at least a half ironman triathlon but I am going to start out small. I am going to work for going and visiting David and trying out the DeGray Lake Sprint Tri.

Hopefully forever, Northland Cable in Starkvegas now has MTV2 on channel 54 and CMT on 55. As of yet neither show up on zaptoit.com or zaptoit on channel 25.

Apparently Stephanie Forman is leaving Starkville once again for her "dream job" in Texas. Wah wah, maybe I would have gone to her "going away celebration" if she had not been a person that rhymed with itch many times in the past year.

So are they the Sooners or the Suckers? The commentators (washed up ex football flunkies) are determined that this is USC's way of proving their dominance where all that is really being proved is that Oklahoma sucks and Auburn should be there.

Traffic was scary coming back home today and it was getting dark. The fun thing is that I can keep up with the cars on Jackson Street because of the lights.

The bell tower is playing Simon & Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water" right now.

2005-01-04 10:35:27 470

I rode my bike to and from work yesterday and rode it back again today. The traffic was a whole lot worse this morning because the Starkville schools being back in session.

Emily and I ate at the Veranda for New Year's Eve. We got their lobster and steak special, it was the first time I have ever eaten lobster so I am not sure if it was that good or not, anyway I was not impressed.

I actually got out and rode my bike two days in a row. I have this nice little loop starting from my apartment, going down Jackson to University, going through campus, and coming out on Blackjack and back down Locksley Way. Today I went across 82 and made the ERC loop too.

Christmas was fun. I drove down to Natchez a week ago. Mother had a ton of food cooked and it was great. Then Brumfield, David, and I went to New Orleans for Wed/Thur to go shopping and stuff. It was a blast. Got to go back to Abita Springs so I am happy. On Friday I got new tires for my car. Turned out that my spare was totally shot so I am glad I never had a flat. For lunch my parents, David, and I went to the Castle and it was pretty good. Later we all went and watched Meet the Fockers. It was funny in a goofy way. I got everything I asked for for Christmas and a few surprises. Some of the stuff I got is the Wizard of Oz on DVD, a retro iron, cufflinks, a pump for my bike, and Paper Mario 2. Paper Mario is like crack, I have played it almost six hours so far and am just in chapter two. Sunday at church was strange because everybody my age is getting married, already married, or popping out kids. My Dad and I spent the afternoon under David's car replacing his leaky gas tank. It was all pretty much straightforward until we started putting stuff back together and the hardened nuts/bolts tack welded to the muffler would not come off. A little chiseling and it was all good. I got up pretty early Monday to drive back up to Starkvegas. My Mom had to cook me pancakes and bacon before I could leave and it was good. I made pretty good time coming back and avoided the perils of Lakeland Drive by going up to Canton and over on 16. When I stopped to get gas at the identity confused BP/Kangaroo gas station, the pump stopped by itself on exactly $17.00 and the tank was full. When I got back in the car my odometer was on 151000 and the trip odo was on 170.0. Something else that was nice, my 15 y/o car made 30mpg back from Canton even loaded down with all of my stuff.

So the face book is the wiki board on crack as according to Muncie. Anyway, best quote ever, from the group description of "Who Else Thinks Hotty Toddy Is the Gayest Chant In History?":

"Yeah...Hotty Toddy definitely sucks. Any school that has "flim-flam bim-bam, Ole Miss by D@mn," man they suck. Find a chant with some real words you homos. Ole Miss....what a gay school."

Had the best birthday ever. Up there with like the fourth grade where I got to have a bowling party. I played with my bike a good bit of the afternoon. It has been out in the rain far too long and was needing a good greasing. Emily came over and brought Mexican cheese dip and presents. She got me some Nivea stuff I had wanted and a neato shirt from Bannana Republic. My surprise was reservations to the Japanese place. We got our own room and I got to eat all kinds of raw stuff so it was wonderful. After a while we went to Old Venice to get something to quench our thirst. We went to watch Ocean's Twelve and it was freaking sold out more than 20 minutes before the show. So we sprung for I (heart) Huckabees. It started out with a nice Tourette Syndrom inspired monologue from Jason Schwartzman and went uphill from there. This movie had the hottest 50y/o redheaded French woman ever. I can say that because I am 23. After the movie we went to Kroger's for some stuff for Emily's mom. The most surreal place in the universe is a Kroger's at a quarter to midnight when you and your girlfriend are the only two customers in the store. You get to ponder why the red line on the floor is unbroken in front of the meat coolers, but its twin in front of the aisles randomly ends under a display across from the bacon...

Right now I have figured out that in all five years I have been doing these silly entries, I have never done one on December 10 which just happens to be the day on which I was born. So here it is. I have been the mighty 23 for less than an hour as of now and it feels just like 19 did, woo woo. Best thing is that I am one year closer to 25 and the almighty lowering of insurance rates that happens then. Even though my current insurance rates are like less than 40% of Emily's...

Yeah I was mean and got what my birthday surprise is out of Emily. It is awesome and completely unexpected so I think I will have fun. Way better than a freaking mint chocolate ice cream cake.

Turducken '04 was great Saturday night. I could not believe how much food was there and how little of it was left when we got done.

David is so lucky. He turned 21. On a Sunday. In a dry county. In Arkansas. Oh how we all feel envy for the mighty legal David!

Watched Christmas With the Kranks for free for WMSV's movie night. The jokes were way better than I expected so I recommend taking the lady out and watching it once for brownie points. Anything to avoid Bridget Jones. Emily and I rented Love Me If You Dare otherwise known as Jeux d'enfants. It was the first foreign language film that I have ever watched all of the way through. It had sweet visuals, but I feel like I missed a lot because I cannot speak French and had to spend the whole time reading. We rented 21 Grams too. Here is a summary: take a twisted murder mystery, divide it into 60 2-minute chunks, order them by a random number generator, and you are done. Anyway it is a pretty good story and it is neat to figure out little things as it goes along. The great thing is that even that this film is in English with mostly American actors, it was written and directed by two different Mexican men.
