I did something so productive. Something that will most likely start to annoy me eventually but at the moment it is pretty funny. Go here and make Bill talk to me.

Went to wonderful Birmingham this weekend. Nathan came through Starkville and picked me up so I did not even have to drive. Made it there and I spent an hour screwing around with Emily and Nathan's laptops on a hub trying to get them to share. Finally got it to work and copied all of Emily's mp3's to Nathan's. After a while we went to the Summit which was a pretty neat upscale mall. Went to a Saks for the first time and that was an experience. Emily found a pair of $160 Paper Denim and Cloth jeans that I liked a lot but she did not get them. Wah. We ate at a Mexican placed called On the Border that was Americanized as much as Applebee's, except for the decor, and nothing like the Mexican places around here that employ 100% authentic Mexican semilegal residents. After a while Emily and I went out to the Blue Monkey close to Five Points. We were both really tired though and the martinis did not help.

On Saturday we got around and ate at a place called On Tap that is a sportsy bar with a bunch of beer amazingly enough on tap. The Tennessee Florida game was on so I was entertained but Emily and Nathan did not really care about it. The food was pretty good even though it was crowded and the service was slow. Then we went to the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. Played with cacti and took a load of pictures. We even walked to Japan. At least it freaking felt like it. Oh the joys of discussing the philosophical values of a rock garden. Then on to the magnificant Galleria. Emily is a freaking marathon shopper and she says that I have yet to see her when she is *really* shopping. In all I tried on three things between two different stores and bought one of them, some J. Crew jeans, so I have a try on / buy ratio of about 1/3. In one store, poor Emily tried on eight different things. Eight. Bought zero. Craziness. It was all good though. I got to sit on the wonderful leather couch in A&F while she tried on jeans as a freaking soft core gay porn of some guys doing the "A&F Decathlon" played on the tv in front of the couch. I did not feel like moving and at least it gives me more resolve to retain my 100% A&F free wardrobe. We left A&F at 9:00 as it was closing, luckily for Emily Parisians did not close until 9:30 so she had time to find shoes. Lucky her, they were even on sale for way cheaper than she thought. I swear a girl on a shoe high is a thousand times more fun to be around than a girl who is just happy. Like drugs or something. Well we finally made it back to Emily's and got ready to go check out a film festival thing going on at Workplay. Turns out it was very interesting. I saw more cross dressers in 5 minutes in Birmingham then I saw in many hours in New Orleans. Luckily it was sold out; I do not think we would have stayed anyway. Eventually made it to the Blue Monkey again, but first Emily got a little lost and we missed it the first time. It was so packed, and at first we did not have a table. Eventually we did get on, and a while after that moved inside to the piano room and had a great time all of the way until last call.

By Sunday morning we felt dead. The first thing we tried to do was catch a 2:00 movie but the place did not have anything until 3:30 because we had missed the 1:00's. So we went back to Five Points and at a Thai resturant. I got this pork stuff that was awesome. It had 3 peppers next to it on the menu so it was supposed to be super hot. It was hot and cleared my sinuses a bit but I expected "three pepper Thai hot" to be at least a little painful. For the rest of the day we pretty much just wasted time because Nathan and I did not want to leave. We did finally though and I got home close to midnight. I had such a good time. I think the next time I will be able to go back will be Halloween. Yay.

The New Orleans trip was wonderful. We stayed in the Sheraton this year and it was crazy nice. I ate at a place called Cajun something - cannot even remember the whole name - with Hawkins and Anthony. A bunch of people went in with us but most of them left because it was "too expensive." They ended up spending even more money where they ended up at. There was a Cajunesque band playing and some old people dancing so it was pretty entertaining. The band had this guy with an "I've been smoking 40 years" deep voice who sang a Johnny Cash medley that was pretty good. The three of us ventured down toward the other end of Bourbon and got the first hand grenades. There were State fans everywhere ringing the hell out of some cowbells. Eventually made it back with everyone who did not eat with us and went back to get them hand grenades, round two for me. That night the strongest drink in New Orleans was most definitely the Pat O's hurricane and not the hand grenade which we figured out for rounds three until the end of the night. At some point Stefan and I were not keeping up with the others so we marched eight to five down the middle of Bourbon to catch up. I went to the hotel around 1AM or so to get more of my cash and got to participate in the carrying of Muncie to bed. There are pictures, wonderful pictures, and as soon as he gets them scanned I will get them up. So all in all it was a very interesting time. By 4AM at least Stefan, Tommy, me, and I think Tweeter were in the lobby of the hotel thinking that it would be a good idea to stay up until 6 to see Dr Min leave for the race he was going to run in. At that point I even called Emily to tell her how good I had been on Bourbon Street. Pretty soon we went to bed.

Luckily we did not have to be on the busses until like 12:30. They drove us like four blocks to the Riverwalk. I called Christie Beard from MSMS and ate lunch with her. Had not seen her since my 11th grade year. She is having loads of fun in grad school down there and working at the House of Blues. She left and I met up with everyone else and played with all of the stuff in Brookstone and Sharper Image. After a while we finally loaded the busses and went to the Superdome. Had to warm up outside and play every freaking song of the show nineteen times to get it just right. Marched in to an empty stadium, loads of fun. I was on the end like I always am so Ben Garret came by to talk. It was his kinda game since alcohol was being served. The game went pretty well the first half. We went down for halftime and Tulane's hired high school band did an amazing SWAC performance complete with several people putting instuments down and dancing. Oh the feats of high stepping and jerking around they were able to accomplish. On of our non caucasian trumpet players apparently said "I feel so white" after witnessing their display. Muncie and I felt like we were back at high school and knew almost every song they played. Our show went pretty good. The artificial turf was interesting, it actually was not even as you went across it so I almost stumbled a few times. Back in the stands the band was made to play Rock and Roll way too early. Way way to early. So we lost the game. That is all it took. Oh well. There is always basketball season. We had some kind of imitation Subway from New Orleans to eat on the bus after the game and it was ok. I think I slept most of the way back. Made it to my apartment a little after 4AM Sunday morning and got some more of that sleep stuff.

So Lambda Phi of Phi Mu Alpha had the first win that I have witnessed in an intramural game tonight. We beat Theta Tau in kickball. Yay. Even though we are in the loser's bracket from losing Monday night, it is a good thing. Appropriately Jeremy's away message is "so begins phi mu alphas domination of intermural sports."

The almighty Tweeter and all of his manly charm has managed to woo one of the sweethearts from Alpha Sigma Tau at South East. No, I am not being sarcastic. Not at all.

The Natchez trip was awesome. The lesson learned is that Chris needs more time to plan bachelor parties. The after party turned out being pretty good though. I wish Emily had been able to make it because she would have had so much fun.

Wedding in Natchez this weekend. Loads of fun.

Yay. "Gave" out bids today after a formal interest meeting last night at Hawkins's. The way I hear things, having more than ten probational members puts us at having a better class than most of the row. Ha, and they pay 15 times more dues.

This holiday weekend has been a most interesting experience. Friday after class several of us went to a Japanese place in Columbus and I had sushi for the first time. I got the "sushi lunch" and Wes and I split two smelt roes. I did not really like the smelt roe that much because it was just basically a damn lot of tiny bright orange fish eggs. On the lunch the California rolls were really good but the thing I liked the best was the white fish because it was a bit spicy. Jeremy gave me a crunch roll to try and it was really good too. Got back to band practice then had to go work at Coconut's until 1AM. It was crazy busy even with two registers open. Saturday I worked as an extra in the package store for five hours and I was so freaking bored because it was busy enough that I could not come down from upstairs.

Sesti and I rode with Emily to the game. The traffic was not bad at all getting on campus. Overall the game was pretty fun even though MSU was losing the whole time. Emily managed to get into the game with my student ticket and ID. She stayed for the entire game which makes her so completely special in that she stayed for the *entire* game and is the only girl who has ever done that for me. So we ended up losing the game but thankfully it did not end up nearly as bad as it looked like it was going to be after the first quarter. Tommy, Steffan, and I counted everytime we played a version of Hail State from warmup until the end of the game and I think the final count was 71 times. After the game we were stuck in traffic and did not make it to Avalon until nearly 1AM. Then there was a get together at Academy so that kept me up for a little while longer.

I got up early Sunday and went to church with Emily. Then province workshop started Sunday afternoon and went really well. At some point it started raining so dinner had to be moved from an outdoor venue to our apartment. After we were done with the official Phi Mu Alpha activites of the day, most everyone came to Avalon again for the ice cream social. It was a great time. Another one of those, "hey let's go to the pool at 3:30AM" kinda nights. Several people never went to sleep so this morning at 9AM some people looked like they were just barely functional. The workshop ended about noon and Chris, Josh, and I came home to clean up. Claude was still here. After a while Emily and I went to a birthday gathering for one of her friends from church. We got back to the apartment and she left for Birmingham. I was sad. Still am because it will be three weeks before I see her again if everything goes to plan. Yay, I am so tired so I am going to go to that sleepy place until my 8:00 class tomorrow.

My trip home went well. Everything was good at my grandfather's service.

I forgot my band shoes. In Natchez. That is bad. Really bad because there is a game this Saturday. Saturday my shoes should be on their way here by way of Brandon Jones. If they make it everything will be ok.

2003-08-24 10:06:27 265

It got better.

2003-08-24 00:21:45 264

Tonight has completely sucked. Then I have to drive to Natchez in the morning to go to my grandfather's funeral. Maybe it is just that time of the month for me or something but nothing has gone my way in a while.

Colorado University band members ticketed for drinking. Only in Colorado could a marching band, the symbol of spirit of an entire university, promote such despicable conduct as underage drinking. Those terrible people. They should come to MSU where drinking is what bad people do.

2003-08-22 08:15:12 262

Some people are retarded. A group of Egyptians in Switzerland are suing "all the Jews of the world" for loses during the Jews exodus from Egypt. By using their special Egyptian math, one ton of gold 1000 years ago is worth 1,125 trillion tons of gold now. However the "crime" took place 5,758 years ago and 300 tons of gold were "stolen," so these Egyptians pretty much want to be compensated for the weight of the Earth in gold. What makes it better is that there is barely 100,000 tons of gold in existance that was ever mined. Maybe if the Jews sue for slavery reparations everything will work out.

2003-08-19 16:15:38 261

I had to work last night at the most wonderful package store. For a Monday night it was crazy busy in the terms of being much more like a Thursday night. The strange thing was that instead of students buying a bunch of stuff like would be expected, most of the customers were old. After work I got to meet Emily's friend Cathy, then we all went over to Stefan's (which from this point onward will be deemed the Den of Debauchery) and had a wonderful time throwing sharp pointy things at wood.

Emily is moving to Birmingham today. Sad sad me. At least she will be back this weekend so I only have to go a whole three days without seeing her. Then hopefully she will be back the next to go to the football game. Yay. She is getting her hair cut today before she leaves, but I will not get to see it until she comes back so I am in some state of wonder on how nice it looks.

2003-08-18 01:50:12 260

Finally put up some kinda old pictures of my trip to Natchez with Emily and the wonderful trip to the coast.

2003-08-15 23:13:06 259

Last night's party pictures are here so Mrs Lance can see why we played so well Friday morning.

Sometime later I will put the fullsize images somewhere people can get to the.

2003-08-15 01:02:21 258

The band camp party ended up being crazy good. The pictures will be up soon. Just see if I make it to practice in the morning.....

2003-08-13 12:39:41 257

Vodka Melon III tonight. Milk and cookies tomorrow. We might even play pin the tail on the donkey. Just have to see if Dr Min will announce it or not.

Band camp. Yay. Fun.

2003-08-07 13:51:18 255

So the costal trip was loads of fun. Emily, Nathan, and I left Sunday afternoon. The good times started in Scooba when we stopped to get gas. The pump Emily pulled up too had this "out of service" message flashing on it so she moved the car to the pump at the end. Of course then the monsoon began as soon as Emily had started the gas. I swear the wind was so strong it was raining sideways and up. I managed to finish filling up the tank while getting soaked, but the gas cap was nowhere to be found because Emily had put it on the trunk. So I went inside to pay for the gas and Emily and Nathan started looking for the cap because it was no longer raining. They were almost to the road and looking in ditches for the cap but I found it a couple feet in front of the car. Then we got on the road again and I felt something pinching my side. Turns out it was this big beetle that had gotten into my shirt at the gas station and it got away on the floor so Nathan was afraid to put his feet down for the rest of the trip. After 10 more bathroom/food stops we finally made it to the coast. In my infinite wisdom, I had made reservations for the wrong days and the hotel we wanted to be at was full. Brad at work had told me the the Imperial Palace was good and cheap so we went there and got a place to stay. The three of us played on the beach for a while then went back to the hotel to wait on Hannah and Robert. After they showed up, the mighty ones of us who were 21 decided to go to the Brew Pub. So we go, and it's closed, and we're sad. Apparently there is not much to do on a Sunday night so what better to do than gamble a little, but not at the Beau because it is crazy expensive and they actually have $300 blackjack. So we went back to the Imperial where Nathan and I fleeced them for a combined $50 or so and poor Emily lost a few dollars. With very little sleep, we all got up early to make it to the ferry to Ship Island at 10. We made it just to find out that once again, I cannot read a schedule either and that the boat does not run at 10 on weekdays so we got to kill time until 12 (shopping of course). Finally made it to the island and it was wonderful. Robert and I were wishing for a cooler on wheels before we made it across the island with the damn heavy thing. Emily had some SPF 50 baby sunscreen so I coated myself in it until I actually turned white. It worked really well because none of use ended up burnt except for Nathan who just had a couple spots. My big accomplishment was chasing a crab in the water until I finally caught it which resulted in it pinching the crap out of my wrists. But I am the great white hunter and proved my superiority over a simple crab. At some point Emily and I swam out to the bouys that mark the "no boat" zone of the island. It was not too bad because the waves were tiny. The trek back across the island was not too bad either because the cooler had lost close to 30 pounds. I slept most of the way back on the ferry. Back at the hotel Emily, Nathan, and I went swimming on the 12th floor pool. It was pretty neat with neato waterfalls and a fake river going into the pool. We got ready and went to eat at Salvetti's. It was wonderful even though we got there kinda late and it was almost closed. We made it back to the hotel and everyone crashed except Emily and I so we went down to the casino to play blackjack. We did pretty good, I cleared $50 and Emily got about $30. I had the grand plan of going and hitting the three casinos on the row, plunking $10 down, quitting when we doubled or lost, and then going to the next casino. But that did not work. We were at the Grand and I blew the entire $50 that I had won earlier at the Imperial so I broke even for the night. Emily, the budding card shark she is, ended up clearing $90 or so. We ended up walking the beach for a while then going back to the hotel at almost 5AM. By some miracle we managed to get up and out of the hotel by 11. We ate and hit a couple souvenir shops and the outlet place in Gulfport. Finally headed home and made it to Starkvegas at midnight.

So got up at 5ish so that Emily, Nathan, and I could ride to Birmingham with Emily's parents to put her furniture in her new aparment. It was loads of fun because I apparently had hurt my knee at the beach, plus she is going to live on the third floor. The apartment is really neat though and everything went pretty well, except for finding out that some of the furniture was a little messed up and needs to be returned (and has to be carried back down the stairs). I rode back to Starkville early with her dad and went to that fun place where I work and felt like a zombie until I got off and was able to get the most sleep I have had in a freaking week. Yay, sleep is good.

2003-08-06 01:12:57 254

The coast was loads of fun. So much fun that I should go to sleep now. I think I will.

2003-08-02 01:06:45 253

In the time of chimpanzees I was a monkey who was about to go to the coast and have a good ole time because I am done with calculus and am deserving it.

2003-07-30 14:26:08 252

Sleep school work sleep school work sleep. Yay, so much fun. At least I did not have to work last night and I will be off tonight too. It cannot be that great though because of my Calculus final tomorrow. Loads of fun. At least things will get better with the vacation I am going to take at the end of the weekend with Emily and Co.

Fixed webalizer. Had to change apache2 to use the same output logs as apache.

2003-07-23 15:26:58 251

This summer is not fun like it should be. Hopefully things will get a little better next week after class is done. Wheee, then a week to freaking band camp. Guess that means I should at least start practicing my trumpet a little so I will not completely suck.

Finally found Emily a laptop that is not too terribly expensive. I think.

Still have not had enough time to get Bill's burners back working :( Webalizer seems to be broken too...

2003-07-19 02:38:11 250

Never have I been so happy for the decisions I have made in my life regarding silly girls.

2003-07-17 13:54:34 249

Severe update day on Bill. I have gotten the 2.6.0-test1 Linux kernel to work which is great because I never got a 2.5 series kernel to work at all. I managed to mess up mod_php somewhere along when I upgraded apache, and of course mod_php would not build on its own; had to change libwww's ebuild to make it work. mysql is kinda broken too; the init script will not start it but I can start it manually. So strange. Oh well, I am compiling the kernel one more time to get the cdburner stuff in it.

Wheeeee, Emily will be back tomorrow :)

2003-07-15 14:53:31 248

Natchez was fun last weekend. I think Emily had loads of fun. She decided to try another week at camp so when she gets back I might get around to putting up some pictures of Natchez.

2003-07-10 22:50:55 247

The power blinked in Starkvegas tonight. I was at the package store and was so happy because at first I did not think it was coming back on. But it did. Took the phones a couple minutes to come back to life and about an hour until the circuit breaker for the a/c would stay on. Bill died and stayed off; apparently I finally have the right BIOS option set to keep it off after a blink. Best thing is I did not lose a hard drive like I did last July.

Test tomorrow morning. Then I get to see Emily and go to Natchez. Loads of fun.
